The Scottsboro Police Department is an Equal Opportunity Employer seeking to employ the best qualified applicants to fill vacant positions in a variety of areas.

Minimum Requirements
Valid Alabama Driver's License
Honorable Discharge from Military if applicable
Must be at least 21 years of age.
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Must be a citizen of the United States.
Must not have any felony convictions.
Must not have any misdemeanor convictions of moral turpitude or domestic violence.

Training
All new police officers are required to complete a basic police officer training program at the Jacksonville State Police Academy. The training program consists of 12 weeks in the subjects of community oriented policing, problem solving, report writing, firearms, defensive tactics, first aid, legal issues, communication skills, emergency vehicle operation and rigorous physical fitness training. New Officers must also complete a 6 week Field Training Program.

Salaries and Benefits
The current salary range for police officers is $2008.l7 - $3368.83/month.

Vacation
5 days paid vacation after first year of service
10 days paid vacation, after 2 to 10 years of service
15 days paid vacation, after 10 to 16 years of service
18 days paid vacation, after 16 to 18 years of service
20 days paid vacation, after 18 years or more of service

Holidays
10 days paid annually for holidays

Sick Leave
A full time employee accrues 1/2 day per month up to 5 years of service. Thereafter, 1 day per month can be accumulated, not to exceed 190 working days.

Military Leave
Police officers may be allowed up to 21 days annually to attend any military commitments.
