Services



Residential Garbage Collection

Garbage collection is collection of paper products and household food waste generally, anything that comes out of the kitchen or bathroom. Garbage is collected once per week for residential customers and the fee is $10 per month for one 65 or 95 gallon container. Additional 65 or 95 gallon containers can be obtained for an additional $5 per month. However, any additional containers (or containers swapped out for larger or smaller size) must be kept to a minimum of one year.

Guidelines
To insure the collection of your garbage, please follow the guidelines:

1) Containers must be placed at the curb by 6:00 a.m. on the day of collection.

2) All customers must use the 65 or 95 gallon container provided by the City of Scottsboro.

3) Containers must NOT contain debris other than household garbage.

4) Containers must NOT contain unacceptable or hazardous waste such as paint, chemicals, solvents, dead animals, rocks, dirt, construction debris, medical or biological waste, hot ashes, furniture, car motors, motor oil, pool chemicals, flammable liquids or any other waste not considered to be household garbage.

5) Containers must be placed at least five feet away from obstructions such as mailboxes, utility poles, trees, or parked cars. Containers should not be placed directly underneath overhanging cable, phone or power lines.

6) Containers must be placed no more than two feet from the curb or road with the arrows on the lid pointing toward the street.

7) Do NOT pile trash, bags, bulky waste, etc. on top of the container or around it.

Household Hazardous Waste

Household hazardous waste products include household cleaners and chemicals, lawn and garden poisons, batteries( household and car), paints and related products pool chemicals, and type of solvents or acids and automotive fluids.

You can safely dispose of these products by taking them to the baling/recycling facility at 27150 John T. Reid Parkway, directly across from Sport Cycles Monday thru Friday from 6:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. If you need additional information you can call the Solid Waste Department at 259-5548.

Recycling

The Scottsboro Solid Waste Department has a drop off site on the corner of Parks Avenue and Houston (across from the Rec Com). Items currently recycled are newspaper, cardboard, aluminum, steel. These items as well as batteries, and used motor oil are accepted at the baling facility at 27150 John T. Reid Parkway (Hwy 72), directly across from Sport Cycles Monday thru Friday from 6:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. We hope to increase recyclable items in the near future.

The Scottsboro Solid Waste Department also offers a cardboard route to all businesses free of charge. This service is for clean cardboard (free of plastic, Styrofoam , metal, etc.) only. Call 259-5548 for more information.

Special Services

Off-Street Residential Collection Request Form
The Off-Street Residential Collection Service is designed to assist individuals who are impaired by a physical disability, which makes it difficult or impossible to transport their automated container to the road for collection. Individuals applying for this free service must possess a verifiable physical disability (in the judgment of Solid Waste Division officials) and must either live alone or have no one living in the same household who is physically able to transport the cart. If approved, customers may leave their cart at a convenient place next to their house, and workers will remove, empty, and return the cart on collection days.


Dead Animal Collection
The Solid Waste department will remove dead animals from the public streets or from the curbside.

To schedule collection call 259-5548. The service is provided Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Scottsboro residents may request collection dead pets or animals that have been killed on city streets. To help City crews follow these hints:

• Collection is made by request only; do not place animals in the rollout container.
• Have a specific address for animals that have been killed on the road.
• All animals collected from Scottsboro homes must not weigh more than 100 pounds, and must be placed at the curb. If at all possible, place the animal in a trash bag.


Commercial and Industrial Collection


Services

The Scottsboro Solid Waste Department offers 95-gallon, 300 gallon, 4 yard, 8 yard, 20 yard and 40 yard containers for a variety of waste streams. These containers can be serviced 6 days a week at the frequency requested by the customer. 20 & 40 yard containers can be prescheduled or scheduled on a 24 hour call in basis. Businesses and companies are responsible for requesting enough containers or frequency of pickups to accommodate their waste needs. Waste services are mandatory throughout the City of Scottsboro by city ordinances.

Containers

(95 gallon 300 gallon)

These containers are designed for food waste, office waste, and lightweight manufacturing waste. Rock, bricks, lumber, heavy metal, large bulky items should not be placed into these containers. Unacceptable or hazardous waste such as paint, chemicals, solvents, dead animals, rocks dirt, construction debris, medical or biological waste, hot ashes, furniture, car motors, motor oil, pool chemicals, liquids flammable liquids.


(4 & 8 yards)

These containers are designed for food waste, office waste, and lightweight manufacturing waste. Rock, bricks, lumber, heavy metal, large bulky items should not be placed into these containers. Unacceptable or hazardous waste such as paint, chemicals, solvents, dead animals, rocks, dirt, construction debris, medical or biological waste, hot ashes, furniture, car motors, motor oil, pool chemicals, liquids flammable liquids.

Any waste generated from manufacturing processes should be pre-approved or identified by ADEM. We now offer locking devices on 4 & 8 containers at your request call 259-5548 for more information.
Containers shall NOT be overloaded (level, nothing hanging off the sides) and free of any obstacles or materials piled around them. It is responsibility of customer to ensure the City of Scottsboro can access its containers.


(20 & 40 yard containers)
These containers are designed for heavy waste, construction demolition, bulky items, heavy manufacturing waste, ect. Unacceptable or hazardous waste such as paint chemicals, solvents, dead animals, medical or biological waste, hot ashes, motor fluids, liquids, or food waste.

Any waste generated from manufacturing processes should be pre-approved or identified by ADEM. These containers can have pre-scheduled pulls or on 24 hour call in basis. Containers shall not be overloaded (level, nothing hanging off the sides) and free of any obstacles or materials piled around them. It is the responsibility of customer to ensure that the City of Scottsboro can access its containers.
