Councilwoman Josephine Smith

    

     Josephine Smith was appointed by the Scottsboro City Council on March 26, 2007 to serve as Council Woman for Place #1 to replace Jim Helms who resigned as Councilman due moving outside the city limits.

Mrs. Smith and her late husband Chester, moved to Scottsboro for the 1967-68 school year. Josephine is a Retired Educator of the Scottsboro School System. Her teaching career includes teaching 6th grade, Counselor and Principal at Page Elementary, 12th grade Counselor at Scottsboro High School and she retired as Director of Curriculum/Instruction and Counseling at the City Board of Administration. Josephine has served the Community on various Councils and on Boards of different organizations.

Josephine has previously served as a Member of the City Council. She was elected October of 1986 and served a four year term which ended in September of 1990 and was re-elected for a second term in October of 1990 and served until September of 1994 for a total of eight years.

Josephine has three children and five grandchildren. She is an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Scottsboro.

Josephine promises to serve Scottsboro as a Council Member to the best of her ability. She said Scottsboro has been good to her and her family.
