     Dan Deason was elected to the office of Mayor of the City of Scottsboro, Alabama on September 14, 2004.  He was successful in his third attempt to acquire this office. 

      In 1996 he was one of five candidates who ran for the office of Mayor of Scottsboro.  He successfully made it to the runoff election and finished second to Mayor Louis Price.  In 2000 he won the general election by 600 votes, but finished second in the runoff to Mayor Ron Bailey.  Determination and desire were instrumental in winning his third attempt for the office of Mayor of Scottsboro.  He won the election by a margin of almost 900 votes ahead of  Ron Bailey.  He is definitely not a quitter and has said that he “believes in the people of Scottsboro and the people of Scottsboro are worth fighting for.” 

     Mayor Deason is originally from Tuscaloosa, Alabama and was raised in the Birmingham Alabama school system.  He attended and graduated from Marion Military Institute in Marion (Perry County) Alabama.  He has attended Faulkner University, Jefferson State University and the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Alabama for three years and has a BS degree in Human Resources Management.  

     He is the proud father of seven daughters and has three granddaughters.  He and his wife, Donna, moved to Scottsboro in 1987 from Birmingham where he was President of the Board of Directors of Century Plaza Mall, a regional shopping mall with 127 stores.  He has an extensive background in retail, insurance, finance and business management.  Mayor Deason has served with the Unites States Air Force on active duty and with the Alabama Air National Guard in Birmingham, Alabama for 24 years.  Eight of those years he served as First Sergeant.  Most recently, he served on active duty after the tragic events of  9-11 for two years as a military policeman. 

     His wife and our First Lady, Donna, is a registered nurse at Jackson County Hospital and serves as a Staff Nurse in the Intensive Care Unit. The Mayor and First Lady are active members of the Scottsboro Church of Nazarene and Mayor Deason enjoys singing special music at church and various community functions.

     The Mayor’s duties consists of Chief Administrative Officer of the City of Scottsboro.  He appoints all city department heads, and oversees and manages the day to day operations of the city, he enacts City Ordinances, Resolutions and Orders, he proposes the annual financial budget the city operates under, and authorizes contracts on behalf of the City of Scottsboro. 

     Mayor Deason has an open door policy to any and all citizens of the City of Scottsboro and welcomes you to come and visit him.
